"Die Bestände eines Archivs werden grundsätzlich entsprechend ihrer Herkunft und nach ihrem Entstehungsort gebildet. Dies dient dem Nachweis der Schriftstücke in ihrem ehemaligen geschäftlichem Zusammenhang und ermöglicht dem/der Nutzer/Nutzerin nachträglich eine historische Einordnung. Dieses Vorgehen der Bestandsbildung in Archiven wird 'Provenienzprinzip' bezeichnet. Weiterhin erhält jeder Archivbestand zur Erleichtung der Nutzung eine eigene Systematik/Klassifikation, die sich an dem Aktenplan der ehemaligen Geschäftsführung orientiert."
