Nonfiction classification of Catholic public libraries

"Sachdarstellungen aus den verschiedenen Wissensgebieten, auch als Bericht, Erlebnisschilderung, Ratgeber oder Nachschlagewerk, werden gegliedert nach der 'Sachbuchsystematik für Katholische öffentliche Büchereien' - Kurzfassung (SKB) bzw. nach der erweiterten Fassung (SKB-E). Die Kindersachbücher und die sachbezogenen Nicht-Buch-Medien für Kinder werden nach der 'Systematik für Kindersachbücher' geordnet. Der Systematische Katalog erschließt den Sachmedienbestand in Büchereien nach inhaltlichen Zusammenhängen (Systematik). Er gibt Auskunft auf die Frage, ob Medien zu einem bestimmten Thema oder Sachgebiet vorhanden sind, z. B. welche Medien zum Thema 'Familie' oder 'Kindererziehung' in der Bücherei zu finden sind. Die Einordnung der Sachmedien in die Regale wird bestimmt durch die Systematik. Die 'Sachbuch-Systematik für Katholische öffentliche Büchereien' wird je nach Größe der Bücherei in zwei unterschiedlich fein gegliederten Ausgaben verwendet: Die Grundausgabe (SKB) findet in Katholischen öffentlichen Büchereien mit kleinen Sachbuchbeständen Anwendung. Die erweiterte Fassung (SKB-E) wird in Büchereien mit einem ausgebauteren Sachbuchbestand eingesetzt. Die Notationen beider Varianten der Systematik werden in den Besprechungszeitschriften der Katholischen Büchereiarbeit, den 'buchprofilen' und den 'medienprofilen', bei jedem rezensierten Titel angegeben. Zur Sachbuch-Systematik wurde ein 'Stich- und Schlagwortregister' veröffentlicht. Es hilft zum einen in der Bücherei bei der Beratung von Leserinnen und Lesern. Weiter erleichtert es das Einordnen von neu erworbenen Büchern und anderen Medien in die entsprechenden Sachgruppen. Das Register gibt z. B. Auskunft auf die Frage, wo die Bücher und Medien zum Thema 'Alter' eingeordnet sind. Durch entsprechende Bibliothekssoftware wird die Einordnung der neu erworbenen Titel in die Sachgruppen und der Auskunftsdienst in der Bücherei sehr erleichtert: Die für die Katholische Büchereiarbeit entwickelten Programme enthalten die gesamte Systematik und die Begriffe aus dem 'Stich- und Schlagwortregister'."
